Troy 45 Greenville 7

Game story

Let's start with the fact that Greenville's starting quarterback is named "Troy Winner." Right off the bat, that seems like a bad omen for the Green Wave.

Greenville is already an improved team from where they've been over the past several years, but they just didn't have enough to stop Troy. The Trojans looked like they were on a mission, and played a nearly flawless game. It was the best game I've seen Troy play in years, and it was refreshing to see.

I'm hoping the Trojans can build on this win and continue to play this way. It looks like they're really starting to put it together. The defense was getting some great penetration on Friday night, pressuring the quarterback and stuffing the run. On offense, the running game was really clicking, and that's the single most important aspect of the game for Troy. I'm really impressed with tailback Cody Boyd. Even on his short runs, he makes some nice moves to get as much as he can. He's a lot of fun to watch.

Halfway through the season, Troy is now 3-2, 2-0 in the GWOC. Next week is the big game against the Piqua Indians, in the most-played rivalry in the state of Ohio. I'm taking the day off from work for the occasion.
