Troy 38 Springfield South 6

What a perfect night for football. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was perfect--wearing shorts and a t-shirt, I got just a little bit chilly by the time the game was over. Once the sun had dropped below the trees, it was just a great night to sit outside and watch a football game.

It was a pretty good night on the field for the Trojans, as well, and what a difference a week makes. Whereas they had flashes of good play in their opening loss to Dublin Coffman, they played a consistently solid game against South. I was particularly impressed with the defense. South's one and only score came with just a minute left in the game, against Troy's second string. Pass defense has been a problem for the Trojans in the recent past, but they have definitely improved in that area this year.

Actually, they played very well all around in this game. The defense stole the show, of course, but offense and special teams looked good as well. The Wing-T offense was running in high gear, as Troy's quarterbacks combined for a mere four pass attempts, but the backs piled up 285 rushing yards. Tailback Corey Brown had 139 of those yards, including a 90-yard TD run.

So the palate has been cleansed after the 56-14 loss in Week 1. The Trojans look to keep things rolling this week when they travel to take on the Sidney Yellowjackets, who are also 1-1.
