The Trojans Are Coming

We're edging into late August, the time of year when a (relatively) young man's fancy turns to thoughts of high school football. I've been gearing up, watching episodes of the Friday Night Lights TV series via Netflix and re-reading the book on which it was based.

It all pays off when the season kicks off tomorrow night. At 7:30 the Trojans host the Chaminade-Julienne Eagles at beautiful Troy Memorial Stadium. If you're planning to attend, remember that the Adams Street bridge is still closed, so you'll need to either go around the Square and take Market Street or go the back way and come via Riverside Drive.

It's going to be an interesting year in Trojan nation. For the first time in 28 years, Steve Nolan won't be roaming the sidelines. There's a new sheriff in town: Scot Brewer takes over as head coach after spending several seasons as the team's defensive coordinator. After watching him transform the defense into one of the toughest units in the GWOC, I'm stoked to see what he can do as the HMFIC (that means, um...head coach).

The Trojans lost a lot of talent from last year's playoff team, the Wing-T offense is probably history, and there are four new teams on the schedule. I have no idea what to expect from them this season. I'm just glad the season is finally here.

Looking forward to another season of Troy football and your candid reviews of Troy's performance. I'm stationed in Kuwait and always look forward to the little piece of home I get when reading your updates.
