Sometimes you run into a buzzsaw. Piqua, as much as I hate to say it, is absolutely loaded this year. Teams will naturally focus on Ohio State-bound tailback Brandon Saine, and they will do so at their own peril. He is only one of a myriad of offensive weapons the Indians have at their disposal, and I'm not even wholly convinced he's the best of them.
It looked at first like this might be an interesting game. Piqua scored a touchdown on their first offensive play from scrimmage, and the Trojans came right back with a typical ground-based drive that ate time off the clock and tied the game at 7. After that, though, the Trojans could get nothing going on offense, and Piqua was able to score pretty much at will.
With the win, Piqua now has a two-game edge on the Trojans in the most prolific rivalry in the state of Ohio. Hopefully the Trojans will make a better showing next year. As for this year, the Trojans are now 5-4 and face another loaded team next week in the Wayne Warriors. They'll have to show a lot more than they did this past weekend if they want to finish up with a winning record.
